Juice #244 - Delicious Aloe (Kale, Pineapple, Aloe Vera Gel) - Another 5-star!

#244   Kale, Pineapple & Aloe Vera Gel

I've given 5 stars to this juice. Don't forget to attribute your own at the bottom of this post!

Before trying this recipe,
I strongly advise you to research online
about the benefits, or not, of ingesting the aloe vera gel.

I came across this huge leaf of aloe vera at our General Store, in the produce area, and decided to bring it home and try it with my juices. First, however, I went online to learn how to harvest the gel from inside the leaf and find more about the benefits or not of ingesting it.

The process of harvesting the gel is pretty easy, depending on which method you choose. I found three different methods online, at least, tried them, and concluded that only one of them was easy enough for me. You cut off the tips and sides of the leaf, cut the leaf in half, horizontally, and scoop the gel with a spoon. You need to be careful to scoop only the gel, so don't press the spoon too hard against the leaf when scooping. The yellowish and green part of the leaf, according to my researches, are laxative, and could cause serious problems if ingested.

As you can see, there's a cheese cutter in the picture above, which would be used for one of the methods that I didn't like, so you won't be using it. All you'll need is a good knife, a spoon, and a glass container to store the gel (it needs to be stored in the refrigerator, in an airtight glass container, and you can keep it for up to a week). You'll also need a working surface that can be easily cleaned since the process is a bit messy and quite sticky.

I tried to make my own video to show you the process of harvesting the gel, but it didn't come out well. I'm posting below the link for the video I used to learn how to do it. The presentation is a little slow, but you can always forward a bit the video if you feel like expediting the process.

https://youtu.be/ur6S05uHPIs

Important: As for the benefits, or not, of ingesting the aloe vera gel, you'll find controversial opinions when researching about the subject online. I will let you decide whether you want to try it or not, but I strongly recommend that you read as much as you can about it before deciding.

As for today's recipe, it's definitely a winner. It's yummily sweet and you can't identify any individual flavor. The ingredients just blend perfectly!

Juice #238 - Velvety (Pineapple, Honeydew Melon, Apple, Strawberry) - Perfect texture!

#238   Pineapple, Honeydew Melon, Apple & Strawberry

I've given 4 stars to this juice. Don't forget to attribute your own at the bottom of this post!

The Pineapple Week, Recipe 6

Mostly pineapple and apple flavor. You taste both, but with some extra, unidentifiable flavor added by their combination with the other ingredients. The melon and apple neutralize the acidity of the pineapple and strawberries, leaving just a hint of it. The consistency is perfect: not too thick, not too thin, and absolutely smooth.

Juice #238

This recipe makes 2 cups (16 Fl.oz.)

Pineapple, Honeydew Melon, Apple & Strawberry

Ingredients
• ½ cup of Pineapple, ready to eat, cut into small pieces (3.21 oz) (44.59 Cal)
• ½ cup of Honeydew Melon, ready to eat, cut into small pieces (3 oz) (30.6 Cal)
• ½ Apple, red, washed, peeled, seeds removed, cut into small pieces (2.29 oz) (34.32 Cal)
• 6 Strawberries, frozen (¼ cup, 1.38 oz) (14.4 Cal)
• ½ cup of the juice left on the bottom of the container where the pineapple is stored (50 Cal)*
• 2 cubes of Ice**
• ½ cup of Water

How to Prepare It
Put all the ingredients in the cup of a small blender (or the single serve cup of a regular blender) and mix everything for around 1 minute. For a better result, put 1 cube of ice after the pineapple, 1 after the melon, and the frozen strawberries after the apple.

*Note 1: I couldn'f find information on the Internet about the number of calories in the water/juice that drains from the pineapple when stored in a container. I used a number that I thought might be reasonable.
**Note 2: The ice helps to better grind the ingredients.
Note 3: This juice doesn't need to be strained.

Semana do Abacaxi, Receita 6

#179     Banana & Avocado

with Lemon Juice, Coconut Water and Honey

The Banana Week, Recipe 1

We are starting today the Banana Week. I chose banana because it's a fruit I have used very barely so far for my recipes. As you may know (I mentioned it somewhere in the previous posts), banana has a very dominant taste, and that's why I don't generally use it as an ingredient. This week it will be different, since banana will be the main ingredient and, consequently, we should expect it to be the dominant flavor.

I first prepared the juice today with 1 cup of water, but it resulted a bit too thick and acid. I added an extra cup to the juice already blended and it tasted 100% better (for my taste naturally). You can try it the original way and, if you agree with my first impression, just start adding water until you find the right taste and consistency for you.

Banana & Abacate

#110     Pineapple & Greek Yogurt

with Coconut Water and Lemon Juice

One day or another it was going to happen. It happened today. I couldn't drink my juice all the way to the end. I tried. Really, really tried. I even tried the "straw strategy". No success. This is the first time I try to include an ingredient that I don't like in the recipe and end up not being able to drink the juice. The thing is, the ingredient was yogurt.

There's something about yogurt, and particularly its smell, that makes my stomach turn. Amazingly, it seems like all yogurts, no matter what flavor, have the same smell (I can't say anything about their taste, since I haven't tried more than a couple in my whole life). I can smell yogurt when I enter a room, even if the containers are closed (it just happened two days ago during breakfast at a workshop I attended).

I truly believe, however, that this juice must be absolutely yummy for the yogurt lovers and even for those who at least tolerate it. The texture is smooth, the color is unique and it has pineapple, one of the most popular ingredients for a juice or smoothie. So don't let my unsuccessful attempt scare you away. Try, and I bet you'll love it!

Abacaxi & Iogurte Grego

com Água de Coco e Sumo de Limão Amarelo

Um dia ou outro iria acontecer. Aconteceu hoje.

Juice #47 - All-citric (Orange, Lemon, Lime, Tangerine Juice) I added some sugar, but maybe you won't need it.

#47 An All-citric Juice

Today I'm bringing to you a delicious beverage made of four citric fruits: orange, lemon, lime and tangerine (juice). It was a little bit too acid for my taste, but, again, I am not a great lover of acid drinks. I added a spoon of sugar (I never add sugar to anything, so I can indulge from time to time), in addition to the agave, and then it was perfect. I believe, however, that a lot of people will love it without the extra sugar.

Speaking of sugar, I'm starting to publish the amount of calories per cup, also, with this recipe, and that will be the number used to label each juice. I realized that since the volume of juice isn't always the same for each recipe, I should have a measure that could be compared. I'll be changing the previous recipes, also, so that the calories displayed on the labels reflect a fair number. You'll find that most of the recipes I create are actually very low in calories if you look at their caloric value per cup.

Orange, Lemon & Lime
with Tangerine Juice

Ingredients
• 1 large Orange (7 oz without skin and pith) (91.5 Cal)
• 1 Lemon (2 oz without skin, pith and seeds) (17 Cal)
• 1 Lime (1.7 oz without skin, pith and seeds) (14.5 Cal)
• ½ cup Tangerine Juice, bottled (55 Cal)
• 1 cup crushed Ice (or 2 cubes)*
• 2 cups Water

How to Prepare It
1. Wash the orange carefully, peel it, remove its pith (white part), cut it in pieces and put them inside the cup of a small blender.
2. Wash the lemon carefully, peel it, remove its piht and seeds, cut it in pieces and put them together with the orange.
3. Repeat step 2 for the lime.
4. Add the tangerine juice, the ice and 1 cup of water and blend everything well for around 1 minute.
5. Cover the blender's lid with a thick layer of paper towel, press the paper against the lid and shake the blender's cup vigorously with both hands.
6. Blend the juice again for at least 30 seconds.
7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 three times to make your juice really smooth.**
8. Pour the juice into a very large glass, add 1 cup of water to the empty blender's cup, shake it and pour this water inside the cup with the juice. Stir it and add a few cubes of ice if you would like a very cold drink.

*Note 1: The ice helps to better grind the ingredients.
**Note 2: You can strain the juice, but it's not necessary.
