Juice #244 - Delicious Aloe (Kale, Pineapple, Aloe Vera Gel) - Another 5-star!

#244   Kale, Pineapple & Aloe Vera Gel

I've given 5 stars to this juice. Don't forget to attribute your own at the bottom of this post!

Before trying this recipe,
I strongly advise you to research online
about the benefits, or not, of ingesting the aloe vera gel.

I came across this huge leaf of aloe vera at our General Store, in the produce area, and decided to bring it home and try it with my juices. First, however, I went online to learn how to harvest the gel from inside the leaf and find more about the benefits or not of ingesting it.

The process of harvesting the gel is pretty easy, depending on which method you choose. I found three different methods online, at least, tried them, and concluded that only one of them was easy enough for me. You cut off the tips and sides of the leaf, cut the leaf in half, horizontally, and scoop the gel with a spoon. You need to be careful to scoop only the gel, so don't press the spoon too hard against the leaf when scooping. The yellowish and green part of the leaf, according to my researches, are laxative, and could cause serious problems if ingested.

As you can see, there's a cheese cutter in the picture above, which would be used for one of the methods that I didn't like, so you won't be using it. All you'll need is a good knife, a spoon, and a glass container to store the gel (it needs to be stored in the refrigerator, in an airtight glass container, and you can keep it for up to a week). You'll also need a working surface that can be easily cleaned since the process is a bit messy and quite sticky.

I tried to make my own video to show you the process of harvesting the gel, but it didn't come out well. I'm posting below the link for the video I used to learn how to do it. The presentation is a little slow, but you can always forward a bit the video if you feel like expediting the process.

https://youtu.be/ur6S05uHPIs

Important: As for the benefits, or not, of ingesting the aloe vera gel, you'll find controversial opinions when researching about the subject online. I will let you decide whether you want to try it or not, but I strongly recommend that you read as much as you can about it before deciding.

As for today's recipe, it's definitely a winner. It's yummily sweet and you can't identify any individual flavor. The ingredients just blend perfectly!

Juice #243 - Wildish (Watermelon, Pineapple, Blackberries) - Yummy wildish flavor!

#243   Watermelon, Pineapple & Blackberries

I've given 4 stars to this juice. Don't forget to attribute your own at the bottom of this post!

Great combination, where all flavors blend very well together. There's a hint of tartness, but nothing that would require a sweetener. The watermelon worked very well, actually, to neutralize the acidity of the pineapple and berries. The juice has a bit of a wild taste, really yummy.

Juice #241 - Plantappleney (Plantain, Pineapple, Honey) A bit of an odd flavor...

#241   Plantain & Pineapple

with Honey

I've given 3 stars to this juice. Don't forget to attribute your own at the bottom of this post!

Plantains are supposed to be cooked. According to my quick research on the Internet, nutritionists don't recommend eating them raw because they are not easily digested. I did use it raw for this juice, however, and didn't feel any discomfort during the rest of the day. It tastes good, actually, less sweet than a regular banana, and its flesh is a bit more consistent.

The juice's flavor resulted a bit odd, not one of the best I've already achieved. The pineapple was completely subdued, and I could have used a smaller amount of honey. The juice came out quite thick (though not revoltingly thick) and creamy.

Plantains - Bananas-da-Terra

A plantain, or cooking plantain (...) is one of the less sweet cultivated varieties (...) of the genus Musa whose fruit is also known as the banana. Plantains are typically eaten cooked, sometimes along with their leaves and fibers, and are usually large, angular and starchy, in contrast to common or "dessert" bananas, which are typically eaten raw and without the peel, usually being smaller, more rounded and sugary; however, there is no formal scientific distinction between plantains and bananas. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cooking_plantain

Juice #240 - A-P-P (Apple, Peach, Pineapple) A little acid, but oh so smooth!

#240   Apple, Peach (yellow, frozen) & Pineapple

I've given 4 stars to this juice. Don't forget to attribute your own at the bottom of this post!

We are starting a week without a theme. I have lots of different supplies in the fridge, and I want to use them before buying more. Among those, there's still some pineapple left from last week, so I'll be using it in a couple of this week's recipes.

Our first juice of the week came out a bit too acid for me, but the different flavors blend quite well. The texture is perfect, a bit thick and really smooth. If I had to change anything, I would just add some honey for extra sweetness.

A textura é perfeita, espessa e verdadeiramente cremosa.

The Pineapple Week, Recipe 7

Ah, the pleasure of a perfect recipe! A double pleasure, actually: for finding it, and for drinking its fabulous result.

Cantaloupe has a very strong flavor and, because of that, is generally difficult to harmonize it with other ingredients. Pineapple's flavor, however, is strong enough to counterbalance it. You can taste both, but the combination is perfect.

Mostly pineapple and apple flavor. You taste both, but with some extra, unidentifiable flavor added by their combination with the other ingredients. The melon and apple neutralize the acidity of the pineapple and strawberries, leaving just a hint of it. The consistency is perfect: not too thick, not too thin, and absolutely smooth.

#235  Pineapple & Strawberry Smoothie

with Vanilla Ice Cream

I've given 4 stars to this juice. Don't forget to attribute your own at the bottom of this post!

The Pineapple Week, Recipe 3

I can't believe this is not a 5-star juice! How can a smoothie with pineapple, strawberry, and vanilla ice cream receive only 4 stars? The answer, believe it or not, is "too much ice cream".

This is the perfect example of why I created this "laboratory". A juice, a smoothie, a cocktail, a soup (or anything else that you cook) are not only about the ingredients. The most important factor, generally, is the balance. A perfect balance of ingredients is what makes the perfect recipe.

In this recipe, the ice cream was totally dominant and didn't leave room for the delicious flavors of  pineapple and strawberries to be also present.

Semana do Abacaxi, Receita 3

Juice #234 - Pinepearwi (Pineapple, Pear, Kiwi) - Great, yummy juice!

#234  Pineapple, Pear & Kiwi

I've given 4 stars to this juice. Don't forget to attribute your own at the bottom of this post!

The Pineapple Week, Recipe 2

This juice has two fruits that are quite acid, but, amazingly, it has just a hint of acidity. I am positive that the pear is responsible for this wonderful balance. Actually, I became a huge fan of using pear as an ingredient to neutralize the acidity of other ingredients. Great juice, really yummy!

Semana do Abacaxi, Receita 2

Grande suco, realmente saboroso!
