#19    Nutritional Art

made with Cantaloupe, Honeydew Melon, Kiwi & Strawberry

Why settle for a basic juice when you can create a work of art full of flavor? With only a little extra work, you will prepare this astonishing juice, beautiful to look at and delicious to drink!

Juice #19
June 12, 2015
This recipe makes 3 cups (24 fl oz)*
Total Calories = 216, approximately
Calories per cup = 72, approximately

Cantaloupe, Honeydew Melon, Kiwi & Strawberry Tricolor Juice

Ingredients
• 7.3 oz of Cantaloupe (without skin and seeds) (70.5 Cal)
• 6.5 oz Honeydew Melon (without skin and seeds) (66 Cal)
• 1 small Kiwi (1.52 oz without skin) (17.3 Cal)
• 4 Strawberries, large (5 oz with green tops removed) (40 Cal)
• ½ cup Coconut Water (22.5 Cal)
• ¾ cups crushed Ice (or 3 cubes)**
• 1 cup crushed Ice*** (+ 1 cup optional)
• ¾ cup Water

How to Prepare It

Prepare the Cantaloupe
1. Wash the cantaloupe, cut 2-3 slices off, remove their skin and seeds and cut them in pieces directly into the cup of a small blender.
2. Add ¼ cup of crushed ice (or 1 cube) and ¼ cup of water.
3. Start by pulsing the blender until its content becomes more liquid and then blend it very well, for about a minute. (It's important to start by just pulsing, if you are using a small blender, since you don't want to add more water (we need a consistent juice) and you don't want you blender's engine to burn out, either).
4. Pour the content of the blender into a cup and set it aside.
5. Rinse the blender's cup.

Prepare the Honeydew Melon and Kiwi
1. Wash the Honeydew melon, cut 2-3 slices off, remove their skin and seeds and cut them in pieces directly into the blender's cup.
2. Wash the Kiwi, remove its skin, wash it again and cut it in pieces directly into the blender.
3. Repeat steps 2-5 as described in the cantaloupe's preparation.

Prepare the Strawberries
1. Wash the strawberries carefully, remove and discard their green tops and cut them in pieces directly into the blender's cup.
2. Add the coconut water.
3. Repeat steps 2-5 as described in the cantaloupe's preparation, except for the water (the coconut water substitutes for it).

"Assemble" your Juice
1. Stir the cantaloupe juice and pour it in a large, 24-oz (or larger) container.
2. Add ½ cup of crushed ice slowly, so that it floats on top of the juice.
3. Stir the Honeydew & kiwi juice and pour it slowly into the container, over the layer of crushed ice.
4. Add ½ cup of crushed ice slowly, so that it floats on top of the juice.
5. Stir the strawberry juice and pour it slowly into the container, over the layer of crushed ice.
6. Insert a long straw slowly into the container with the tricolor juice, trying not to disturb its layers.****

*Note 1: That's the size of the container in the pictures. I was actually left with a bit of  the Honeydew & Kiwi and the Strawberry juices. If I prepare it again, I will use a larger container, or reduce the amount of cantaloupe.
**Note 2: The ice helps to better grind the ingredients.
***Note 3: For this juice you will need some crushed ice. If you don't have an ice crusher on your refrigerator's door, you can do it by hand: wrap 6-8 ice cubes tightly with a clean dish cloth and crush them with a hammer (like the one you use to soften the meat). Do not crush the ice in the blender, since you want it crushed into somewhat large pieces.
****Note 4: When you start drinking, you can start stirring the juice slowly to create beautiful and artistic color effects. After drinking about an inch or so, you can completely stir it, add crushed ice to the top and decorate it with a beautiful strawberry (see picture above.)

Arte Nutritiva

Suco No 19

Esta receita faz 3 xícaras (709ml)*
Número total de calorias = 216, aproximadamente
Calorias por xícara = 72 aproximadamente

Suco Tricolor de Melão Cantaloupe, Melão Amarelo, Kiwi & Morango

Ingredientes

5. Enxague o copo do liquidificador.

Prepare o Honeydew Melon e o Kiwi

Juice #14 - The Grassy (Lettuce, Alfalfa Sprouts, Honeydew Melon, Lemon Juice, Lime Juice) Green and grassy!

#14   Honeydew Melon, Lettuce & Alfalfa Sprouts

with Lemon Juice and Lime Juice

This is a very green juice, with a “grassy” taste (mostly because of the alfalfa sprouts) and a slight trace of tartness (lemon and lime juices), regardless the subtle sweetness added by the Honeydew Melon. If you prefer a less caloric juice and without any trace of sweetness, exclude the melon. On the other hand, if you prefer a stronger sweetness, reduce the amount of the lemon and lime juices, add only one of them, or even avoid them at all.
