Juice #248 - Kappleloe (Kale, Apple, Aloe Vera Gel, Maple Syrup) - Overall, a tasty juice

#248   Kale, Apple & Aloe Vera Gel

with Maple Syrup

I've given 3 stars to this juice. Don't forget to attribute your own at the bottom of this post!

Before trying this recipe,
I strongly advise you to research online
about the benefits, or not, of ingesting the aloe vera gel.

Kale and apple blend very well, and the aloe vera flavor didn't seem noticeable. I couldn't even identify that hint of bitterness that I would expect because of the gel. Overall, a tasty juice.

#176     Broccoli, Orange & Canned Pineapple

with Lemon Juice, Coconut Water and Maple Syrup

The Broccoli Week, Recipe 5

This is a very flavorful juice. I added Maple syrup to neutralize the acidity of the lemon juice, but I believe that the coconut water might do the job by itself. I tried something different today: I cut just the very top of one of the broccoli flowers and topped the juice with those "crumbles" (see photo). Then I stirred everything and ate the little pieces while drinking the juice. It was quite interesting!

Put all the ingredients inside the cup of a small blender (or the single serve cup of a regular blender) and mix everything for around 1 minute. For a better result, put 2 ice cubes in the bottom of the cup, 2 after the broccoli and 2 after the rest of the ingredients.

Brócolis, Laranja & Abacaxi em Lata

com Sumo de Limão Amarelo, Água de Coco e Xarope de Maple

Semana do Brócolis, Receita 5

#78   Cooked Strawberries

with Ginger, Maple Syrup, Cinnamon and Tangerine Juice

Today I found that the strawberries I had in the fridge were far from being fresh. I also had a piece of ginger that was starting to mold on the outside. Not a problem. Just another opportunity to come up with a cooked juice, which can be enjoyed warm or cold. I tried it both ways, and, for my taste, warm is still better. It's the perfect beverage for everybody who's enduring a cold winter in the south hemisphere.

Something strange happens when it comes to juices. I found I really enjoy a lot of things (that I don't generally enjoy) when I use them as ingredients in my juice recipes.

Except for its smell, I am not crazy about cinnamon. I don't use it on waffles, or pancakes, or bananas, or any other of those traditional things that are generally paired with it. I don't like anything spicy (hot), either.

Because I added a lot of cinnamon to my concoction, today, my warm juice had a strong cinnamon taste and was also a bit spicy. And guess what? I simply LOVED it! You should definitely try it!

Morangos Cozidos

Simplesmente ADOREI! Vocês deveriam experimentar. Sério. É MUITO gostoso!

Juice #43 - The Winter Juice (Peach, Apple, Wine, Maple Syrup) Good for winter, and good for summer.

#43 Another Cooked "Juice"

As I mentioned yesterday, today I'm posting the recipe for the second cooked beverage I prepared with refuses from other juices in the last two days (in this case, refuses from the juice posted on July 4th).

Cinnamon Stick garnishes the beverage and serves as a spoon to stir it

"Juice" #43

• Skin and central part (some flesh left) of 1 Red Apple (Cal ?)
• ½ small bottle of Red Wine (2.5 fl oz) (62.5 Cal)*
• ¼ tsp Maple Syrup (4.2 Cal)
• 2 cups Water

How to Prepare It
1. Wash carefully the peaches and peel them.
2. Wash carefully the apple and peel it.
3. Cut the peaches and apples in pieces and put the flesh aside. Put the refuses (skin, pits and the center of the apple) inside a small saucepan.
4. Add 2 cups of water and the Maple syrup, stir it, and bring the mixture to a boil over high heat.
5. Lower the heat to medium and let it cook for 30 minutes (you can set the timer, if your stove has one).
6. Add the wine and bring the mixture to a boil, again, over high heat. Using a small strainer, smash the mixture as much as you can.
7. Lower the heat to medium and let it cook for 30 minutes more.
8. Let the mixture cool for a while and strain it into a bowl using a medium size strainer, pressing the mixture against it. You can drink your "juice" warm, or let it cool in the fridge.

Juice #36 - Warm Delight (Grapes, Wine, Maple Syrup) Saving not-so-fresh grapes.

#36 Grapes & Wine: double enjoyment, warm or cold

(Important: this recipe contains alcohol)

So you open the fridge and find a pack of grapes you had forgotten there about a week ago. They don't look pretty at all, all "wrinkled" (pic.1), though you can see they are not spoiled. Not a problem. There's a way to make them look great and very, very tasty!

Be warned, however, that this is like a sin: very tempting, but it comes at a high cost. It's tempting because it's completely, absolutelyundoubtedly d-e-l-i-c-i-o-u-s! Comes at a high cost because it has the absurd amount of 410 calories!!

You could try one (or a combination) of the following options to lower that scary number:
  1. Do not add Maple Syrup or any other sweet ingredient.
  2. Add enough water to make it into two portions.
  3. Don't change anything. Just share it with somebody and drink only half of it.
I will probably try options 1 and 2 in the future and will let you know about the result of the experiments. For now, here is the recipe the way I did it this time.

Relax and indulge yourself. You won't regret! (And you can always eat a little less that day and compensate for the extra calories.)

"Juice" #36
June 29, 2015
This recipe makes 2.3 cups (18.5 fl oz)
Total Calories = 410, approximately
Calories p/Cup = 178.3, approximately

Cooked Grapes & Wine

Ingredients
• 14 oz of Seedless Red Grapes (180 Cal)
• 1 small bottle of Red Wine (5 fl oz) (125 Cal)*
• 1/8 cup of Maple Syrup (105 Cal)**
• 4 cups of water

How to Prepare It
1. Wash carefully the grapes (pic.2).
2. Put the grapes, the water and the maple syrup in a medium size saucepan and set it on the stove, uncovered, over high heat (pic.3). Stir and bring the mixture to a boil (pic.5).
3. Lower the heat to medium (pic.6), add the wine (pic.8), stir again, and let it cook for 30 minutes. You can set the timer, if your stove has one (pic.9).
4. After 30 minutes cooking, stir it again, pushing the mixture against the walls of the pan to crush it (pic.10).
5. Let it cook for 1 hour over low heat (pics. 11 and 12).
6. Let the mixture cool for a few minutes, pour it into a blender's cup and blend it for around 1 minute (pics. 13 and 14).
7. Strain the mixture into a bowl using a medium size strainer (pic.15).
8. Push the mixture against the strainer to extract as much liquid as possible (pic.16).
9. Discard the residual pulp left in the strainer (pic.17).
10. You can enjoy your drink immediately (pic.18), still warm. It's SO flavorful!
11. If you don't feel like drinking it warm, store it in a closed container (pic.19) and let it cool for several hours, or add ice cubes to have it cool faster (see main picture, above). Warm or cold, it's equally delicious!

*Note 1: I used a small bottle of Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi, Cabernet Sauvignon, California, 2012 (pic.7)
**Note 2: I used Dark Amber Maple Syrup Grade A 100% pure, Private Selection (pic.4)

Calorias totais = 410 aproximadamente
Calorias por xícara = 178,3 aproximadamente

Uvas e Vinho Cozidos

Ingredientes
• 400g Uva Rosada sem semente (180 Cal)
• 1 garrafinha pequena de Vinho Tinto (187ml) (125 Cal)*
• 1/8 xícara de Xarope de Maple (105 Cal)**
• 4 xícaras de Água

Como prepara
1. Lave as uvas cuidadosamente (fig.2).
9. Descarte a polpa que fica no coador (fig.17).
