Juice #249 - Great Trio (Orange, Apple, Strawberries) - Wonderful combination!

#249   Orange, Apple & Strawberries (frozen)

I've given 4 stars to this juice. Don't forget to give us your rating at the bottom of this post!

This recipe is almost perfect. Actually, it should receive 4.5 stars, but I still didn't start attributing half points. All flavors are present, but none dominates, which makes for a very pleasant combination.

Juice #249

This recipe makes 2 cups (16 Fl.oz.)
Total Calories = 147.33, approximately
Calories per Cup = 73.67, approximately

How to Prepare It
Put all the ingredients in the cup of a small blender (or the single serve cup of a regular blender) and blend it for around 1 minute. For a better result, put 1 ice cube after the orange and 1 after the apple.

Note 2: This juice doesn't need to be strained.

Juice #238 - Velvety (Pineapple, Honeydew Melon, Apple, Strawberry) - Perfect texture!

#238   Pineapple, Honeydew Melon, Apple & Strawberry

I've given 4 stars to this juice. Don't forget to attribute your own at the bottom of this post!

The Pineapple Week, Recipe 6

Mostly pineapple and apple flavor. You taste both, but with some extra, unidentifiable flavor added by their combination with the other ingredients. The melon and apple neutralize the acidity of the pineapple and strawberries, leaving just a hint of it. The consistency is perfect: not too thick, not too thin, and absolutely smooth.

Juice #238
February 12, 2016
This recipe makes 2 cups (16 Fl.oz.)
Total Calories = 173.91, approximately
Calories per Cup = 86.96, approximately

Pineapple, Honeydew Melon, Apple & Strawberry

Ingredients
• ½ cup of Pineapple, ready to eat, cut into small pieces (3.21 oz) (44.59 Cal)
• ½ cup of Honeydew Melon, ready to eat, cut into small pieces (3 oz) (30.6 Cal)
• ½ Apple, red, washed, peeled, seeds removed, cut into small pieces (2.29 oz) (34.32 Cal)
• 6 Strawberries, frozen (¼ cup, 1.38 oz) (14.4 Cal)
• ½ cup of the juice left on the bottom of the container where the pineapple is stored (50 Cal)*
• 2 cubes of Ice**
• ½ cup of Water

How to Prepare It
Put all the ingredients in the cup of a small blender (or the single serve cup of a regular blender) and mix everything for around 1 minute. For a better result, put 1 cube of ice after the pineapple, 1 after the melon, and the frozen strawberries after the apple.

*Note 1: I couldn'f find information on the Internet about the number of calories in the water/juice that drains from the pineapple when stored in a container. I used a number that I thought might be reasonable.
**Note 2: The ice helps to better grind the ingredients.
Note 3: This juice doesn't need to be strained.

Semana do Abacaxi, Receita 6

• ½ Maçã vermelha, lavada, descascada, sementes removidas, picada (66g) (34,32 Cal)
• 6 Morangos congelados (¼ xícara, 40g) (14,4 Cal)
• ½ xícara do suco depositado no fundo do recipiente onde o abacaxi é guardado (50 Cal)*

Juice #235 - Pineberry Smoothie (Pineapple, Strawberry, Vanilla Ice Cream) - A little too much ice cream

#235  Pineapple & Strawberry Smoothie

with Vanilla Ice Cream

I've given 4 stars to this juice. Don't forget to attribute your own at the bottom of this post!

The Pineapple Week, Recipe 3

I can't believe this is not a 5-star juice! How can a smoothie with pineapple, strawberry, and vanilla ice cream receive only 4 stars? The answer, believe it or not, is "too much ice cream".

This is the perfect example of why I created this "laboratory". A juice, a smoothie, a cocktail, a soup (or anything else that you cook) are not only about the ingredients. The most important factor, generally, is the balance. A perfect balance of ingredients is what makes the perfect recipe.

In this recipe, the ice cream was totally dominant and didn't leave room for the delicious flavors of  pineapple and strawberries to be also present.

Semana do Abacaxi, Receita 3

Juice #233 - Pineappleberries (Pineapple, Apple, Strawberries, Coconut Water) - It could be a 4-star

#233  Pineapple, Apple & Strawberries

with Coconut Water

I've given 3 stars to this juice. Don't forget to attribute your own at the bottom of this post!

The Pineapple Week, Recipe 1

New week, new main ingredient. Pineapple is great for juices, isn't it? It's refreshing and full of flavor. The only concern is to try to neutralize a bit of its acidity (for those, like me, who don't actually enjoy acid beverages).

For today's recipe, I used apple and coconut water as the neutralizers. Unfortunately, the coconut water I used to use before (Zico) is not available at "my" grocery anymore, and I'm being forced to use this other brand (One), which adds much more coconut flavor than the previous. That would be great if I were looking to add such flavor, but all I actually wanted was to add some natural sweetness.

The dominant flavors, here, are those of the apple and the coconut water, and I would prefer not to have this last one. I don't think it blended well with the rest of the ingredients. So, if you don't mind if your juice comes out a bit more acid, just skip the coconut water, and it will probably turn into a 4-star recipe.

Juice #233
February 7, 2016
This recipe makes 2 cups (16 Fl.oz.)
Total Calories = 152.66, approximately
Calories per Cup = 76.33, approximately

Pineapple, Apple & Strawberries
with Coconut Water

Ingredients
• ½ cup of Pineapple ready to eat, cut in small pieces (3.39 oz) (47.04 Cal)
• 1 Apple, red, washed, peeled, seeds removed, cut into small pieces (4.09 oz) (60.32 Cal)
• 8 Strawberries, frozen (½ cup, 2.12 oz) (21.6 Cal)
• ½ cup Coconut Water (23.7 Cal)
• 1 cube of Ice*
• ½ cup of Water

How to Prepare It
Put all the ingredients in the cup of a small blender (or the single serve cup of a regular blender) and mix everything for around 1 minute. For a better result, put the ingredients in the following order: pineapple, ice, apple, strawberries, and waters.

*Note 1: The ice helps to better grind the ingredients.
Note 2: This juice doesn't need to be strained.

Semana do Abacaxi, Receita 1

#231  Cucumber & Frozen Strawberries

I've given 3 stars to this juice. Don't forget to attribute your own at the bottom of this post!

The Cucumber Week, Recipe 6

Very low calories!

This is a very, very light and refreshing juice, however the cucumber flavor is a bit too dominant and doesn't blend perfectly well with the strawberry's. I believe we could achieve a much better result by increasing the number of strawberries. I'll definitely try it again!

Juice #231

Pepino & Morangos Congelados

Semana do Pepino, Receita 6

Vou tentar, definitivamente!

#222     Pear & Strawberries

I've given 5 stars to this juice. Don't forget to attribute your own at the bottom of this post!

The Pear Week, Recipe 4

Yes, I know this is just so simple... but believe me, it does deserve the five starts I attributed to it. Actually (correct me, please, if you think I'm wrong), unless you are one of those who dislike strawberries (a bit uncommon), any juice in which strawberry flavor is dominant will be a five-star for you. There's only one little problem with strawberries (for my taste): they tend to be a little acid. As for the flavor, however, I can't think of any other one capable of beating it. Now, as you can see, this juice has pear, also, and pears are very sweet by nature. And there we are: the perfect combination!

•  cups of Water

How to Prepare It
Put all the ingredients in the cup of a small blender (or the single serve cup of a regular blender) and mix everything for around 1 minute.

Note 1: Since the strawberries are frozen, there's no need for ice in this recipe.

Pera & Morango

A combinação perfeita.

#190  Red & White Christmas Float Delight

Strawberry & Raspberry Juice, Apple and Vanilla Ice Cream

Christmas Week, Recipe 5

One of my favorite things about coming up with recipes is the creative process (the reason for this blog, indeed). I particularly enjoy the process of reinventing, using leftovers and transforming them into a totally new and delicious treat.

We had some Strawberry & Raspberry Juice left from yesterday's recipe, so we are going to use it today for our last Christmas-inspired creation (for which, by the way, I used the beautiful decorated glass (see picture) I received as a gift from my ex-colleagues at the Denver Public Library).

You definitely don't want to miss this one for your Christmas supper. It's highly festive and utterly delightful! Just a warning: this is really, really caloric!

#190  Float Vermelho e Branco para o Natal

Suco de Morango & Framboesa, Maçã e Sorvete de Baunilha

Semana do Natal, Receita 5

#189  Tricolor Christmas-inspired Juice

Kale, Avocado, Pear, Apple, Frozen Raspberries & Frozen Strawberries

How colorful and delicious!

Christmas Week, Recipe 4

Juice #189
December 23, 2015
This recipe makes 3½ cups (28 fl.oz.)
Total Calories = 270.37, approximately
Calories per Cup = 77.24, approximately

Kale, Avocado, Pear, Apple, Frozen Raspberries & Frozen Strawberries

Ingredients
• 1 leaf (large) of Kale, washed, spine removed, torn into small pieces (1.02 oz) (14.21 Cal)
• ½ Avocado (small), washed, peeled, cut in pieces (0.60 oz) (27.2 Cal)
• 1 Pear (D'Anjou), washed, peeled, seeds removed, cut in pieces (3.81 oz) (64.2 Cal)
• 1¼ Apple (Red), washed, peeled, seeds removed, cut in pieces (3.92 oz) (58.76 Cal)
• ¾ cup of frozen Raspberries (70 Cal)
• ¾ cup of frozen Strawberries (50 Cal)
• 4 cubes of Ice*
• 2½ cups of crushed Ice
• 1½ cups of Water

Prepare the Green Juice
1. Put 2 cubes of ice, the kale, ¾ of apple, the avocado and ¼ cup of water inside the cup of a small blender (or the single serve cup of a regular blender) and mix everything for around 30 seconds.
2. Pour the juice into a container and set it aside.
3. Rinse the blender's cup.

Prepare the White (or yellowish) Juice
1. Put 2 cubes of ice, the pear, ½ apple and ¼ cup of water inside the rinsed blender's cup and mix everything for around 30 seconds.
2. Pour the juice into a container and set it aside.
3. Rinse the blender's cup.

Prepare the Red Juice
Put the raspberries, the strawberries and 1 cup of water inside the rinsed blender's cup and mix everything for around 30 seconds.

"Assemble" your Juice
1. Stir the green juice and pour it into a large 28-oz container.
2. Put 1½ cups of crushed ice carefully on top of the juice (if you followed the recipe, your green juice should be thick enough to hold the ice on top of it).
3. Stir the white (yellowish) juice and pour it on top of the ice very slowly, so that it doesn't go immediately through the ice layer.
4. Put a cup of crushed ice carefully on top of the white (yellowish) juice (if you followed the recipe, this juice will hold the ice just enough, though not as well as the green juice).
5. Stir the red juice and pour half of it** on top of the ice slowly (it should hold up enough to not filter immediately through the ice).
6. You can enhance the visual of your juice with some Christmas decoration.
7. With the help of a straw, you can create some color swirls.

*Note 1: The ice helps to better grind the ingredients.
**Note 2: The amount of red juice was more than the glass could hold, so I used only half of it. I saved the rest for tomorrow's recipe.
Note 3: You don't need (and shouldn't) stray this juice.
Note 4: I advise you to drink your juice with a straw, so that you don't need to eat the crushed ice as you drink it. I also advise you to mix all the layers. The flavor is great when you mix all together.

Prepare o Suco Verde
3. Enxágue o copo do liquidificador.

Prepare o Suco Branco (amarelado)

#187 Green & Red Juice + White Smoothie:
another Christmas suggestion

Kale, Avocado, Frozen Strawberries & Banana

with Lime Juice and Vanilla Ice Cream

Decorative and yummy

Christmas Week, Recipe 2

Our second recipe inspired by Christmas is a three-layer juice that mixes fruit, vegetables and... ice cream! And, believe it or not, yes, kale can go well with ice cream.

I started drinking each layer individually, with the help of a straw, but close to the end I mixed everything and was surprised to find such a nice flavor in such a strange combination. The straw also helped me with the excess of ice (necessary to keep the layers from mixing immediately). I didn't need to remove it, as I did yesterday, because the straw allowed me to drink the juice without needing to eat the ice together.

This recipe makes 3½ cups (28 fl.oz.)
Total Calories = 265.38, approximately
Calories per Cup = 75.82, approximately

Kale, Avocado, Frozen Strawberries & Banana
with Lime Juice and Vanilla Ice Cream

Ingredients
• 1 leaf (large) of Kale, washed, spine removed, torn into small pieces (1.34 oz) (18.62 Cal)
• ½ Avocado (small), washed, peeled, cut in pieces (1.09 oz) (49.6 Cal)
• 2 tsp Lime Juice, bottled, 100% natural (2.66 Cal)
• ¾ cup of frozen Strawberries (50 Cal)
• ½ Banana, peeled, cut in pieces (1.76 oz) (44.5 Cal)
• ½ cup of Vanilla Ice Cream (100 Cal)
• 3 cubes of Ice*
• 2 cups of crushed Ice
• 1½ cup of Water

Prepare the Green Juice
1. Put 2 cubes of ice, the kale, avocado, 1 tsp of lime juice and ½ cup of water inside the cup of a small blender (or the single serve cup of a regular blender) and mix everything for around 30 seconds.
2. Pour the juice into a container and put it aside.
3. Rinse the blender's cup.

Prepare the Red Juice
1. Put the strawberries and 1 cup of water inside the rinsed blender's cup and mix everything for around 30 seconds.
2. Pour the juice into a container and put it aside.
3. Rinse the blender's cup.

Prepare the White Smoothie
Put 1 cube of ice, the banana, the ice cream and 1 tsp of lime juice inside the rinsed blender's cup and mix everything for around 30 seconds.

"Assemble" your Juice
1. Stir the green juice and pour it into a large 28-oz container.
2. Put 1 cup of crushed ice carefully on top of the juice (if you followed the recipe, your green juice should be thick enough to hold the ice on top of it).
3. Stir the red juice and pour it on top of the ice very slowly, so that it doesn't go immediately through the ice layer.
4. Put a second cup of crushed ice carefully on top of the red juice (if you followed the recipe, your red juice will hold the ice just enough, though not as well as the green juice).
5. Stir the white smoothie and pour it on top of the ice slowly (it will start filtering through the ice quite immediately, but slowly enough to not completely mix with the red layer).
6. You can enhance the visual of your juice with some Christmas decoration.
7. With the help of a straw, you can create some color swirls (see picture).

*Note 1: The ice helps to better grind the ingredients.
Note 2: You don't need (and shouldn't) stray this juice.

Suco Verde & Vermelho + Vitamina Branca:
outra sugestão para o Natal

Couve, Abacate, Morangos Congelados & Banana

com Sumo de Limão Taiti e Sorvete de Baunilha

Decorativo e gostoso

Semana do Natal, Receita 2

For our recipe, today, I used frozen strawberries together with two tangerines and some cream of coconut. The result was simply delicious!

Delicioso!
