#179     Banana & Avocado

with Lemon Juice, Coconut Water and Honey

The Banana Week, Recipe 1

We are starting today the Banana Week. I chose banana because it's a fruit I have used very barely so far for my recipes. As you may know (I mentioned it somewhere in the previous posts), banana has a very dominant taste, and that's why I don't generally use it as an ingredient. This week it will be different, since banana will be the main ingredient and, consequently, we should expect it to be the dominant flavor.

I first prepared the juice today with 1 cup of water, but it resulted a bit too thick and acid. I added an extra cup to the juice already blended and it tasted 100% better (for my taste naturally). You can try it the original way and, if you agree with my first impression, just start adding water until you find the right taste and consistency for you.

• 6 cubes of Ice*

Banana & Abacate

#176     Broccoli, Orange & Canned Pineapple

with Lemon Juice, Coconut Water and Maple Syrup

The Broccoli Week, Recipe 5

This is a very flavorful juice. I added Maple syrup to neutralize the acidity of the lemon juice, but I believe that the coconut water might do the job by itself. I tried something different today: I cut just the very top of one of the broccoli flowers and topped the juice with those "crumbles" (see photo). Then I stirred everything and ate the little pieces while drinking the juice. It was quite interesting!

Brócolis, Laranja & Abacaxi em Lata

com Sumo de Limão Amarelo, Água de Coco e Xarope de Maple

Semana do Brócolis, Receita 5

#164  Lettuce & Avocado

Variations on a Theme, Week 4: Lettuce & Avocado

Would you believe me if I said that we got a third perfect combination today? Three in a row? Is this even possible? Well, I'm here to tell you that yes, it IS possible. Our recipe today is just one more of those perfect combinations. And it's so simple!

I feel happy that we are ending our fourth (and last, at least for now) series in such a high note. On the other hand, I feel sad that we are ending it. After coming up with three perfect combinations in a row, I can only conclude that Lettuce + Avocado is just the perfect foundation for many really delicious recipes. Don't be surprised, then, if I bring to you some other variations for this base in a near future.

#162  Lettuce & Avocado

with Butternut Squash and Lemon Juice

Variations on a Theme, Week 4: Lettuce & Avocado

Yummy, definitely yummy! This is one of the cases when the combination of ingredients turns out to be just perfect.

I know I did this before, maybe several times, already, but I do need to talk again to you folks who are not trying any of the recipes that have avocado as one of the ingredients because you just don't like avocado. Listen to me, please, and trust me (I don't like avocado as a fruit either). You don't know what you are missing.

I said it before, and I'll say it again: avocado does not add a recognizable taste to the beverage. It does add, however, a wonderful consistency. An amazing, luxurious velvety texture that no other ingredient that I've tried so far (and I did try a lot of them) can beat.

So do yourself a big favor and try this recipe. Go for it with an open mind. The worse thing that can happen is that you end up wasting a bit of money and a few minutes of your time and pouring your juice in the sink. Try it! And then tell me about it. I promise to keep my mind open, also, and accept your verdict, whatever it is.

Alface & Abacate

Experimente!

#141  Orange & Tomato

with Beets and Lemon Juice

Variations on a Theme, Week 1: Orange & Tomato

This is our fourth variation for the Orange & Tomato series. Even though I used only one tablespoon of lemon juice in the recipe, the result was still a bit too tart for my taste. But again, as you may already now at this point, I'm not very fond of tartness. I believe that many people will find this juice perfectly balanced. What's more important, it's healthy.

Laranja & Tomate

This juice is naturally sweet, very smooth and very flavorful. Avocado's texture is unbeatable in a juice. As for its flavor, it's not actually dominant, so you can use it even if you are not a fan of it, just for the texture (and nutrients, of course).

Cantaloupe & Avocado
with Coconut Water and Lemon Juice

Ingredients
• 2 slices of Cantaloupe, washed, peeled, weeds removed, cut in pieces (6 oz) (57.8 Cal)
• ¼ of a small Avocado, washed, peeled, cut in pieces (2.96 oz) (134.24 Cal)
• ½ cup of Coconut Water (22.5 Cal)
• 1 tbsp of Lemon Juice, bottled, 100% natural (1 Cal)
• 3 cubes of Ice*
• ½ cup of Water

How to Prepare It
Put all the ingredients inside the cup of a small blender (or the single serve cup of a regular blender) and blend everything very well for at least 1 minute. For a better result, put the ice cubes between the cantaloupe and the rest of the ingredients.

*Note 1: The ice helps to better grind the ingredients.
Note 2: You can strain the juice, but it's not necessary.

#110     Pineapple & Greek Yogurt

with Coconut Water and Lemon Juice

One day or another it was going to happen. It happened today. I couldn't drink my juice all the way to the end. I tried. Really, really tried. I even tried the "straw strategy". No success. This is the first time I try to include an ingredient that I don't like in the recipe and end up not being able to drink the juice. The thing is, the ingredient was yogurt.

There's something about yogurt, and particularly its smell, that makes my stomach turn. Amazingly, it seems like all yogurts, no matter what flavor, have the same smell (I can't say anything about their taste, since I haven't tried more than a couple in my whole life). I can smell yogurt when I enter a room, even if the containers are closed (it just happened two days ago during breakfast at a workshop I attended).

I truly believe, however, that this juice must be absolutely yummy for the yogurt lovers and even for those who at least tolerate it. The texture is smooth, the color is unique and it has pineapple, one of the most popular ingredients for a juice or smoothie. So don't let my unsuccessful attempt scare you away. Try, and I bet you'll love it!

Abacaxi & Iogurte Grego

com Água de Coco e Sumo de Limão Amarelo

Um dia ou outro iria acontecer. Aconteceu hoje.

#90     Everything that Fits (2)

I had so many ingredients still in the fridge that I was not able to use for the recipe yesterday, that today I decided to prepare a second "Everything that Fits". This one is very different from the yesterday's, though, and it's much less caloric. It has only vegetables as ingredients and some condiments, including salt (or No Salt, which has no Sodium). It tastes like a wonderful salad!

I can't deny that I have a real crush on salad-like juices. They are SO delicious!
