Juice #241 - Plantappleney (Plantain, Pineapple, Honey) A bit of an odd flavor...

#241   Plantain & Pineapple

with Honey

I've given 3 stars to this juice. Don't forget to attribute your own at the bottom of this post!

Plantains are supposed to be cooked. According to my quick research on the Internet, nutritionists don't recommend eating them raw because they are not easily digested. I did use it raw for this juice, however, and didn't feel any discomfort during the rest of the day. It tastes good, actually, less sweet than a regular banana, and its flesh is a bit more consistent.

The juice's flavor resulted a bit odd, not one of the best I've already achieved. The pineapple was completely subdued, and I could have used a smaller amount of honey. The juice came out quite thick (though not revoltingly thick) and creamy.

Juice #241
February 16, 2016
This recipe makes 2 cups (16 Fl.oz.)
Total Calories = 230.06, approximately
Calories per Cup = 115.03, approximately

Plantain & Pineapple
with Honey

Ingredients
• 1 Plantain, raw, washed, peeled, cut into small pieces (5.22 oz) (180.56 Cal)
• ¼ cup of Pineaple, ready to eat, cut into small pieces (1.90 oz) (26.46 Cal)
• 1 tbsp of Honey (64 Cal)
• 2 cubes of Ice*
• 1½ cups of Water

How to Prepare It
Put all the ingredients in the cup of a small blender (or the single serve cup of a regular blender) and mix everything for around 1 minute. For a better result, put the ice between the plantain and the pineapple.

*Note 1: The ice helps to better grind the ingredients.
Note 2: This juice doesn't need to be strained.

Plantains - Bananas-da-Terra

A plantain, or cooking plantain (...) is one of the less sweet cultivated varieties (...) of the genus Musa whose fruit is also known as the banana. Plantains are typically eaten cooked, sometimes along with their leaves and fibers, and are usually large, angular and starchy, in contrast to common or "dessert" bananas, which are typically eaten raw and without the peel, usually being smaller, more rounded and sugary; however, there is no formal scientific distinction between plantains and bananas. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cooking_plantain

#125  Avocado & Lime

with Sweetened Condensed Milk and Coconut Water

This recipe was inspired by the request of a friend, who asked for recipes with lime. I decided to use sweetened condensed milk to neutralize the tartness of the lime, but the result was still a little tart (like if I had used the lime with peel, which was not the case). Nevertheless, it was possible to notice that the flavor and consistence of the smoothie were great. I will try this same recipe again, in a near future, and will use lime juice instead of the whole fruit. I believe this will be the secret to turn this smoothie into one of the most delicious you could ever try. Just one alert: it's very high in calories.

#123     Cantaloupe & Avocado

with Coconut Water and Lemon Juice

This juice is naturally sweet, very smooth and very flavorful. Avocado's texture is unbeatable in a juice. As for its flavor, it's not actually dominant, so you can use it even if you are not a fan of it, just for the texture (and nutrients, of course).

#78   Cooked Strawberries

with Ginger, Maple Syrup, Cinnamon and Tangerine Juice

Today I found that the strawberries I had in the fridge were far from being fresh. I also had a piece of ginger that was starting to mold on the outside. Not a problem. Just another opportunity to come up with a cooked juice, which can be enjoyed warm or cold. I tried it both ways, and, for my taste, warm is still better. It's the perfect beverage for everybody who's enduring a cold winter in the south hemisphere.

Something strange happens when it comes to juices. I found I really enjoy a lot of things (that I don't generally enjoy) when I use them as ingredients in my juice recipes.

Except for its smell, I am not crazy about cinnamon. I don't use it on waffles, or pancakes, or bananas, or any other of those traditional things that are generally paired with it. I don't like anything spicy (hot), either.

Because I added a lot of cinnamon to my concoction, today, my warm juice had a strong cinnamon taste and was also a bit spicy. And guess what? I simply LOVED it! You should definitely try it!

Morangos Cozidos

Simplesmente ADOREI! Vocês deveriam experimentar. Sério. É MUITO gostoso!

This is really sweet. A little bit too sweet for my taste, but great for those who enjoy a lot of sweetness. The Açaí Juice is responsible for the old pink color, which looks so yummy and beautiful.

Juice #51 - The Classy (Pluot, Kale, Liquefied Coconut) Very sophisticated!

#51 Pluot & Kale

with Homemade Liquefied Coconut

I bet you this is a first. Its exquisite flavor is a perfect fit for its strange combination of ingredients and somewhat strange color. Just a bit tangy, the dominant flavor is that of the plum (Pluot), which together with the Kale and the Coconut turn this juice into a very unique and sophisticated beverage. Don't forget to add some ice cubes for an extra touch of class and freshness.

• 1 Pluot (4.55 oz with skin, no pit) (69.6 Cal)
• ½ cup homemade Liquefied Coconut (130 Cal)*

Pluot, a hybrid plum  /  Pluot, uma ameixa híbrida
How to Prepare It
1. Wash the kale carefully, remove its spine, cut it in pieces and put them inside the cup of a small blender (or the small cup of a regular blender).
2. Wash the pluot carefully and cut it in pieces directly into the cup with the kale.
3. Add the homemade liquefied coconut, the ice and 1 cup of water and blend everything well, for around 1 minute.

Nut Milk Bag
Coador de pano para leite de cereais
4. Put a nut milk bag inside a medium size bowl and pour the mixture (see pictures below) plus the rest of the water (1 cup). Suspend the bag to let the liquid flow through it. When the liquid stops flowing, squeeze and twist the bag with both hands several times to extract as much juice as possible.
5. Pour the juice in a glass and add ice cubes.

Ameixa & Couve

Juice #32 - Cooked Piney (Pineapple, Honey) No more waste!

#32   Pineapple & Honey Cooked Juice

Feeling tired just with the thought of peeling the pineapple you just bought? Trying not to waste to much of the fruit... Removing eye by eye... Relax! From now on, peeling a pineapple will be a piece of cake for you, and will still come with an extra perk!

Juice #32
June 25, 2015
This recipe makes 2½ cups (20 fl oz) of juice
Total Calories = Unknown (256 Cal, approximately, for the honey. I didn't find information about the number of calories in the pineapple's skin.)
Calories p/Cup = Maybe 120, approximately

Pineapple & Honey Cooked Juice

Ingredients
• 1 Pineapple
• ¼ cup of pure Honey (I used Orange Blossom Honey)
• 10 cups of Water

How to Prepare It
1. Wash the pineapple thoroughly, under hot water, using a small brush.
2. Put the pineapple on a large plate (you want to save the juice that will form during the peeling process), pick up a bread knife (yes, a bread knife) and remove the top and bottom of the fruit.
3. Hold the pineapple upright on the plate and start cutting off its skin from top to bottom, moving around until you have it all "bare". Cut the skin thick enough to remove all eyes from the flesh of the fruit. Don't worry about the waste. You won't throw the skin away, and you actually want some flesh attached to it.
4. Wash your bare fruit under cold water and store it (I like to cut it in small pieces and store it in the fridge ready to eat).
5. Cut the skin into smaller pieces and throw them in a medium size saucepan. Don't forget to add the juice that formed in the plate. If you want to waste still less of the fruit, you can cut the skin around the top and the bottom and throw those pieces also into the pan.
6. Add 6 cups of water and ¼ cup of honey, stir it, set the pan on the stove, uncovered, over high heat, and bring the mixture to a boil.
7. Lower the hit to medium and let it cook for 30 minutes.
8. Stir the content in the pot very well, crushing it with the help of two wooden spoons, add 2 cups of water and let it cook for another 30 minutes.
9. Stir the content again, crushing it as much as you can, add 2 cups of water and let it cook for 1 hour over very low heat.
10. Let the content in the pan cool down, and strain it using a large strainer.
11. Pour the juice into a container with a lid and let it cool overnight in the fridge.

You can use this concoction as an ingredient for other beverages, or just drink it as is. It is very tasty and refreshing juice!

*Note: For a less caloric juice, you can reduce the amount of honey or cook the skin with water only.

Suco No 32
